Overwriting WP Documents

Tech Support Issue:
How to save a file so that a Protected Document does NOT become a Case Document. The assumption here is that the user has modified a Protected Document (these are document templates) and wants to overwrite the existing file. They do not want to save the document as file type “Case Document”, since a Case Document is only available in the record in which it was created. A Case Document is not a template.

To overwrite a Protected Document:

1. From the File menu, click Save or Save As. DVMax defaults the document type to Case Document even if the original document was a Protected Document. This is designed to prevent accidental overwriting of important templates.

Note that if you chose Save from the File menu, DVMax provides a note in red font on the Save WP Document window indicating that the document type was changed to Case Document. No such note is provided if you selected Save As, but the document type defaults to Case.

If you plan to overwrite the protected document you have just edited, do not change the document name in the Save As box.

2. If you want to give the modified document a new name, thereby creating a new protected document, type a new name for the file in the Save As box.

3. To save the document as a Protected Document, choose Protected Document from the Document Class drop-down menu. This is essential if you plan to overwrite the protected document. Otherwise, the document will be saved as a Case Document.

4. Click Save.

5. A Confirm window opens. From the Confirm window, choose Overwrite to replace the existing protected document with the one you have just created or modified. Click Re-enter if you would prefer to give the document a different name. This will take you back to the Save a WP Document window.
